The Drone Development Challenge (DDC) 2025, organized by SAEINDIA Southern Section, is a national-level competition aiming to cultivate Indian expertise in unmanned aerial systems. Held from 28th to 30th March 2025 at Karpaga Vinayaga College of Engineering and Technology, Chengalpattu, the event provided a rigorous platform for engineering students to conceptualize, design, build, and demonstrate drones with real-world flight capabilities. It emphasizes safety and holistic design, requiring teams to master aircraft design, fabrication, technical reporting, and effective oral presentation. The DDC features two competitive classes: Regular and Micro. In the Regular Class, teams focus on fundamental aerodynamic principles and aim to lift and accurately drop a cargo payload. The Micro Class challenges participants to strike a balance between maximizing payload fraction and minimizing empty aircraft weight, promoting advanced trade-off analysis. Both classes include static events—such as technical inspections, design reports, and presentations—and dynamic flight rounds that test real-world performance and execution under pressure. SAEOU at DDC 2025 Team Garuda, representing SAE Collegiate Club Osmania University (SAEOU), competed in the Regular Class and delivered an excellent performance. From initial sketches to a refined prototype, their focus on subsystems like fuselage, wings, landing gear, tail, avionics, and control surfaces culminated in a well-engineered, cohesive drone. Their efforts earned them the Best Performer Award from Green Tech Aviation Company, recognizing their technical excellence and exceptional team collaboration.
